That thing helps both aspects of recording for me. Damn you amp sims!! One thing that I think has made a difference for me in terms of the quality of tone I'm getting both with the sim and also for future reamping (with a real amp) is my REDDI. Then, when I do reamp I find it to take a lot of work to get as food a tone as the fake amp. I do know that at this point in terms of my work, my clients think everything sounds great and usually question me when I say want to reamp the VI guitars with my real amps. I think it's kind of hard to compare the 2 as in this case I liked the sound I got with AT3 better but that's not to say that if I spent more time with GTR3 and tweaked it I wouldn't have gotten the same or better sound. I'm still experimenting with AT3 and used it yesterday as a replacement for some GTR3 tracks. I always find it interesting that opinions can vary so widely, but I guess it's all subjective, isn't it? but that's what Amplitube Fender is for and man that thing sings. Again, I'm not going to launch it when I want an overdriven Fender '57 Deluxe. I love Pod Farm for the synth models and crazy effects. I'm from the Adrain Belew school of guitar so sometimes I want a guitar to sound totally nontraditional and that's what I use Guitar Rig for. Mostly I got it for heavily effected sounds. So close to sounding like a guitar amp but I always get the feeling that they're really alien transforming robots hiding as guitar amp sims. definitely better than 3, but still a lot of models seem to fall in what I call the uncanny valley. Now with AmpliTube v3, I bet they're as good if not better than the Amp Room sims, though I haven't done and A/B yet. I thought the Vintage/Metal Amp room sims sound fantastic but to me the Amplitube 2 models could sound almost as good and you get a TON more amps and effects for the money.

I've also seen many threads lately where Peavey seems to have horrible customer service and generally ignore their customer base.

Believe me, features like the vst sub hosting and being able to tweak things on a "electronics" level make me hard. I think Revalver III sounds horrible in my opinion, but some people like it.

If it weren't for the free version I'd not have it at all. I thought GR3 was OK, but nothing special.

Of course, nothing is going to replace a real stack on a stage or amp room, but I think the reason we're talking about this product is that's not always possible. I've always thought that the AmpliTube models sounded and felt more like real amps mic'd up and listened to in a recording studio's control room. Now if other amp sims could figure out what NI is doing to get those sounds and build on that. You are correct the sonic and tones are what makes it feel more realistic. If it wasn't for GTR I would of gave up on the amp sim a long time ago. GTR still stands firm to me with rock guitars and something that is usable with logics guitar sim coming in second for the astounding vox emulation, eleven and aplitube is probably 4th or 5th on there for clean tones and using some of the distortion for a industrial song when i want weird bad fuzz. Doing that and mixing it in makes it sound real and adds the air it's missing if i ride it from the back en up and eq. Also I tend to buss all my guitars and group then set my monitors in mono, put it in my vocal room and pick it up with a sm-57. GTR is about the only amp sim i have used that sounds like a real rock guitar and the marshall and orange amps are pretty decent an most all settings i can use on a album and not feel weird about it. Sometimes a great river in place of the api but rarely. My chain is Les paul studio, api 512c di, apogee rosetta. Distorted rock guitars and mock ups of famous amps failed and in some cases were horrible. I like the blues and american style quite a lot. It's great on bass guitar, tube simulation and clean tone.

Fixing the distortion and cabs is the one thing holding amp 3 back or the whole series in general imo. When it came to clean tone and diversity of pedals i thought it won in a lot of way and i would not hesitate to use amp3 just for clean tones as a go to but for big rock guitars i think it failed again. The vox, marshall emulations are very poor compared to gtr3, 4 and even logics amp sim. My MAIN issue is the distorted rock guitars sound too fuzzy even without a fuzz pedal and it just doesn't sound real enough to cut it for me. I made a thread about this last night and got into amp3 for about 3 hours or so.
